Bomb Threat

Poem in Goatshed Press 1

In this poem, I explore the islamophobia people face on a day-to-day basis. I wanted to critique the systemic racism Muslim's experience in a relatable manner - by focusing on the anxiety of being seen as 'different' to everyone else.

Goatshed Press is a collection of short stories and poems from writers across the world. Currently available to buy online!

Hard Drive of Memory

Poem in Wilder Things Magazine

In this surrealist x sci-fi poem, I wanted to explore the idea of self-inflicted heartache. It was inspired by dark wittiness in Black Mirror and focusses on the incessant adverts which drive forward capitalism.

Achievements

BA English and Creative Writing

First Class, University of Birmingham

Here, I studied a range of texts from gothic literature to children's picturebooks. This course furthered my critical comprehension and understanding in all genres. It also provided the building blocks of many forms of writing including prose, poetry, radio drama, and film scripts.

MA Creative Writing

Distinction, University of Birmingham

My postgraduate degree was the most enjoyable part of my education and allowed me to hone my writing craft. It taught me how to make a career out of what I love whilst helping me perfect my editing abilities - both of my own, and other's, works.

Fun fact - the first chapters of my current work-in-progress, Face to Fae, was originally written for my Master's dissertation. (To my relief, I got a high grade!)

Extracurricular Projects

BFI Film Academy

Short Course

This academy sparked my enjoyment of filmmaking and content creating, providing me with the necessary skills needed to storyboard, film, and edit any piece I want to create.

Narrative 4 Story Exchange

A programme which bridged gaps between English and Irish students through sharing stories.

This exchange was one of the highlights of my student life as it was the deciding factor of why I chose to pursue a career in writing. It made me realise I wanted to write to encourage empathy and understanding within our diverse population. Without stories, people may never comprehend how similar we all are.

Why I write

Oftentimes, the world is very difficult to understand. And more so, it is very difficult to be wholly understood in this world. Writing gives me the chance to explore serious topics in a safe space without the fear of misunderstanding or being misunderstood. I aim to create space spaces in literature for readers where they can explore topics such as neurodivergent belonging, abuse, and mental health conditions in a fantastical world. Reflecting reality in fantasy is vital to my work as I believe it can provide enough escapism for readers to detach from their real life problems whilst helping them navigate through them.

I also write to encourage empathy between people. Stories are the one thing which bring people together. Whether its the hardship of war, or the first time a baby smiles, stories bring us together and make us realise we humans are not so different after all.

Selfishly, I write because it makes me feel whole. There are too many thoughts in my mind - getting them out on paper is freeing. I truly believe writing is my purpose and I am determined to make this my career.

Interests and Hobbies

Other than reading and writing (obviously), I have too many interests and hobbies to count.

From watching Anime and Kdramas to Beta Squad and Dan & Phil on youtube, I love to be entertained.

Some of my favourite anime characters include Gojo (my king), Loid (the love of my life), and Tohru (the woman I aspire to be most like)

If I'm not watching something, I'm usually jumping from hobby to hobby. Painting (watercolour mainly), crochet, singing, puzzles, editing and filming my social media videos, dabbling in origami - the list is ongoing! I'm never fully done with a hobby; they usually lie dormant until I remember them again.

As you can probably tell, I try to seek out the most creative things to partake in and I can never like things casually. If I'm talking about something, it has probably consumed me at some point. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

(Also aren't I just so cute with Gojo and Spiderman? -- two of my heroes --- masked kings)
